Boudoir Photography

Some of the most frequently asked questions I hear when it comes to boudoir photography are:

What should I expect from my photo shoot? Photographs taken the day of the session are private and will not be shared unless you sign a model release

How should I prepare for my boudoir shoot?

• Get  a good nights sleep prior to the session and drink plenty of water
• Wear  loose fitting clothing to the studio to avoid leaving any marks on your skin
• Paint  finger and toe nails because they will be seen in the photos, nude or French manicure looks nice and clean.
• Shave or wax
• Arrive with a make-up free face and dry hair (if you booked hair + make-up)

What should I bring with me?

• Any of your favorite lingerie outfits. Pack a suitcase and we can discuss and narrow down your choices when you arrive.
• Push-up  bras, Cami’s  and/or slips, Boy  Shorts, Garters, High  heels and/or pumps, Costume  or sentimental jewelry, A  robe for in-between poses if you are modest

What if I am doing my own make-up and hair?

• Then go overboard! Wear more make-up then you would on a normal basis, foundation is key.  Stand back from the mirror 5 feet, do you like how your make up looks from that distance?  That’s what the camera will see close up.
• Wear or bring false eyelashes with glue
• Lip color is important so bring with to reapply

Can I bring a friend?

Of course! And I encourage you to do so!

Payment Full payment for your session is due when you book your date.  Your online booking form will direct you to Paypal once you hit submit.  Print & album orders are made separately.

Newborn Portrait Photography | What to expect

When should I schedule my newborn session?
We will tentatively schedule your session for about 6-8 days after your due date. As your due date approaches make sure to keep me filled in on any changes. Once you know when you will be arriving home please have someone call me to get scheduled that week.

If your baby was just born and is less than 14 days old, call today!

What age do you recommend for newborn portraits?
A newborn is BEST to photograph in the first 5-14 days of life. After 14 days old, most babies are typically more alert, may have baby acne and a colic are common at this age.

This is not to say after 14 days we can’t do a newborn session.  We will just plan accordingly to your babies age and sleep/feeding habits.

Where do you recommend for the newborn session?
Brio Art offers newborn sessions at our portrait studio in Hopkins, MN or at your home.

- I will have the studio very warm for the day of your session (78+ degrees).
- If we are doing the session at you home please plan to have your house warm or put a space heater in the room we will be photographing in.  The room with the most natural light will be ideal.  This will help make your baby feel warm and cozy especially when they are naked.  A newborn session can take up to 4 hours.

How should I prepare for my session?
I recommend planning ahead so we can, to the best of our abilities, have your baby sleepy for the session. For the best result a full tummy = tired baby. If you can try and keep your baby awake for about an hour before your session, it will make them sleepier for me when you arrive. Also have them a bit hungry before you arrive and I’ll ask you to feed them once you get here.

Mom’s please try to avoid any caffeine before the session if you are breast feeding.  This will in turn make your baby more active and they may not sleep very well.

Also plan to loosen their diaper & clothing an hour or so before our session, it will help prevent red marks or diaper creases from showing up on your baby’s skin. Also avoid putting them in clothing that will be difficult to remove.  This will in turn wake them up. I recommend just a diaper and warm blanket. 

What outfits should I plan for?
While most of their newborn session we will have them naked for there are a few items you can plan to bring with. If there is a special blanket or accessory you would like to have your baby photographed with please let me know ahead of time so I can coordinate.

What should Mom or Dad wear?
Something comfortable and light, remember the studio will be warm. No graphics, bold stripes or prints.  Bring an extra change of clothes in case your baby has an accident on you.

What happens if… No matter what your baby does, please know that I am always relaxed. I have photographed many, many newborn sessions and have seen everything. This session is supposed to be a special experience for you and I don’t want you stressed if the baby starts to cry. There will be plenty of time allowed for your session. If we need to take a break to feed, walk, rock, etc. we can do that. We want you to enjoy the experience of your session and this special bonding moment.

Check list for your session & what to pack:

– blankets that are special to you (made by grandma, embroidered with baby name, matches nursery, etc.), hats or booties you love, diaper cover, plain onsie, fun personal items that represent a hobby, favorite sports team, family heirlooms, etc.

– Feeding supplies: anything you will need to nurse or bottle feed your baby.

– A pacifier, this may be needed to help soothe baby. If you are nursing you may not be using a pacifier regularly yet.

– A few extra diapers. I say 5-8 to be safe.

– A set of light/comfy clothes to wear while your baby’s photos are being taken. A set of clothes to wear for a family photo (remembering no logos or busy prints please). Extra clothes encase your baby has an accident on you, which may very well happen.

– Food for Mom or Dad:  You may build up an appetite over the course of the session.

Happy Friday Everyone!

I got such a great response from my last post that I thought I would keep them up.  This last week was so wonderful.  I got to enjoy some quality time with my BFF Poly in sunny Mexico, get to know a new girlfriend & her husband and get in a few photos on the beach.  All-in-all fantastic.  We had some major laughs every night after dinner, probably induced by the abundance of adult beverages at our resort.   Thank you Poly for having me join in your adventure.

I spent a majoring of this last week thinking over my business and what life has given me lately.  I have been contemplating some major plans for my business and hope to be rolling them out this summer.  Kinda exciting!  I have also been putting a lot of thought into what life has to offer and what I want to get out of it.  It's going to sound funny but I watched a movie on my flight called "About Time" and it got me thinking.  It's from the same people who did "Love Actually" and "Knotting Hill" so you can guess it was a romantic comedy of sorts.  The gist is that the men in the family can travel though time and the guy in the movie decides to use this talent to get the girl he loves.  But by the end of the movie it's more about how he chooses to lead a happy life and what he does to accomplish that.  The one major thing that stuck in my mind was that he chose to relive every day twice.  The first time around going about the day as normal, and the second time around choosing to focus on the details.  Rather than rushing off in the morning to work he ran back upstairs and gave his wife a good bye kiss.  What if we could do that every day, how much more could we get out of our experiences?

Maybe I have already started doing this, maybe it started in NYC.  I've had this silly saying going though my head for years and have only started to put it into effect.  The saying is, "If you never try the answer is always no."  I usually say it when I buy a lottery ticket as a joke but I thought this in my head while I was in NYC and I went for it. Then it hit me like a lightning bolt while chatting with Poly this week.  We were discussing Sex and the City and the first line Carrie says is, "Women come to New York for the two L's: Labels and Love."  How fitting for me.  I found the latter, I'll have to go back for the labels another day.  So as Carrie would put it I have a wonderful Man-friend, boy-friends are for girls in the 20's.  At this age we are looking for something real, something important.

Next up is Europe and I can not express how excited I am.  I had mentioned this trip to my Man-friend and half joking, yet completely serious, that he should join me.  To my surprise and complete amazement he got a ticket!  I'm still jumping up and down with excitement that he will be with me in London and sharing in this adventure.  My morning cafe will be twice as sweet now that he will be there.  As my superhero would put it, "making all my dreams come true."  Then to top it off I'll be meeting up with Poly in Barcelona & Paris.

I'll keep shooting for the moon, but I'm pretty sure I've already landed in the stars.  Speaking of stars, I think it's time for my next tattoo!

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css_animation_speed="faster" css_animation_delay="0"]Wow, I feel like it's been forever since I put up a personal post.  I apologize.  Life has been a whirl-wind of travel and excitement this last month.  I can't even describe how happy my heart is.  I keep waiting for the next day knowing it maybe just a normal day yet once again I'm beyond happy.  So let's start with my first trip of the year, NYC.

NYC

It was a last minute trip and I was so excited to see an old client and photograph their newborn daughter.  I booked the trip only one week prior and made a last minute hotel reservation.  The session when absolutely wonderful, baby E was awake for part of the session and then gave us some precious sleeping photos as well.  I could just see the love all over mom & dad's faces.  It still puts a smile on my face.  I can only hope that when my day comes to have a family I will radiate just as much love and happiness as I saw in their home.  After this amazing session I was pumped to go see another past client at the Knicks game at Madison Square Garden.  Her husband plays for the team so of course I was rooting super hard for them ... and they won!  I heard all about their move to NYC and how different is was than other states where he has played.  The atmosphere of NYC is like no other.  I also learned that you drink beer out of straws, interesting ... I'm kinda a fan now :)  And to top off the end of the game I was driven home, slight detour though time square so I could see it all lit up at night.  C & B you two are absolutely wonderful, thank you, I had a blast!

After a wonderful day I celebrated with a few cocktails at the hotel bar and as luck would have it I met a new friend.  More on that later.  Let's just say January in NYC was a start to a VERY good 2014!

AUSTIN

So here's the "more" ....  My new friend lives in Austin and invited me down for a warm get away.  ( This is after he spent 9 days in MPLS and even shoved my un-kept drive way, what can I say ... I don't like to shovel).  I happily agreed, the thought of warm weather and more time with him sounded perfect.  I can not express how much I enjoyed my time there.  From the wonderful walking trails, kayaking, poolside drinks to downtown night life I think I'm in love with AUSTIN.  I even hiked up to the top of Enchanted Rock, wow what a view!  So if any of you have been watching my instagram feed, you know what's been going on.  :)

Next Up

Next up is a fantastic trip to Mexico with my BFF Poly!  We plan to soak up some delicious sun rays and get in a fun photoshoot on the beach.  Wait til you see these "trash the dress" photos!  I may even spend a few hours of business planning but we will see.  The pina colada's and poolside might be more inciting than my laptop.

On the first day they met, Vinayak jumped in the same stall of a revolving door with Emily just to keep talking to her! He seemed nice enough to Emily but they both worked in different departments so they didn’t cross paths all that often. Then, in the fall of that year Vinayak was transferred into Emily’s department and his manager let him choose from one of the open offices. As fate would have it, the office across the hall from Emily happened to be empty and Vinayak moved in.  Now Vinayak and Emily saw each other every day and, little by little, they got to know each other. Vinayak started taking his breaks outside so he could walk through the park with Emily. He’d tell her stories and jokes to make her laugh. Emily couldn’t quite put her finger on it, but working in finance just seemed more interesting these days!

By Christmas Eve of 2012, they realized that they never wanted the fun to end. Vinayak proposed (ask to see his tattoo!) and Emily said yes.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css_animation_speed="faster" css_animation_delay="0"]I met my wife, Steph, at a mutual friend's birthday party back in 2007. We started dating on 9/9/2007... while I was attending college at St. Cloud State and Steph was attending University of Duluth "UMD" (three hours apart!).  Our First date involved 3 hours of tennis , leaving steph exhausted and me still ready to go. Following tennis, we ate dinner at Khan's Mongolian Barbeque... The food was Mild but the date was spicy!  We spent almost three years in a long distance relationship, until June of 2010 when we graduated and moved back to the twin cities so we could finally live in the same town. I popped the question on Stephs Birthday in 2011 which was one day prior to the royal wedding of Will and Kate. They totally copied us, but oh well! The best part of our wedding was having the people that we love there to celebrate our marriage. We had so much fun seeing our families and friends all come together! And of course finally getting married to my best friend after planning for over two years!
